Career services

The HTWK Leipzig Career Office is your first stop for all things career-related. We provide career counselling, career exploration workshops, interest and personality assessments, and a wide range of resources to help you choose the right career in the midst of so many options. Whatever stage you are at in your career development, we are prepared to assist you every step of the way. All of our services are available free of charge to all HTWK Leipzig students.

  • In confidential one-on-one advising sessions, our career counsellors can help you identify your goals and chart a course for success. We will review your cover letter and CV together, and comment on the strengths and weaknesses of your employer references. We help you prepare for job interviews and assessment centres, and assist you with your search for internships or entry-level positions.
  • Moreover, we organise a variety of workshops every year designed to guide students through a broad range of career options. Working in small groups under the supervision of experienced counsellors and practitioners, workshop participants learn how to write winning cover letters, create compelling presentations, and communicate effectively in job interviews and work-related situations.
  • While the Career Office does not offer job placement services, our career advisors are collaborating with employers at the regional, national and international level, with public institutions and with the University’s various faculties – thereby establishing vital connections that serve to smooth graduates' transition into a successful career.

Important note to non-EU international students:  When planning your career, please keep in mind that a degree from HTWK Leipzig does not automatically entitle you to work legally in Germany. After graduation, you have one year to find a position that is appropriate to your qualification. If an appropriate job offer is made, the Federal Employment Agency will carry out a priority check (to ensure that no other persons with priority - i.e. Germans or EU citizens - can take up this job offer). After this, you may be granted a residence permit for the pursuit of gainful employment.
