HTWK Leipzig launches a partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi – expanding joint research into textile-reinforced composites
HTWK Leipzig is continuing to expand its international activities. From 26 February to 6 March 2026, Robert Böhm, holder of the Chair in Lightweight Construction with Composite Materials, visited the renowned Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in India. The visit took place as part of an initiative by the Indian Ministry of Textiles. The aim is to strengthen Indo-European research cooperation in the field of textile-reinforced composites in the coming years. Numerous European experts were invited to take part, including Prof. Böhm.
Professional exchange in Bhiwani
Two academic events took place, with Prof. B. K. Behera from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi providing expert guidance. Prof. Böhm delivered a keynote speech at each of the events. The presentations focused on current developments in the fields of composite materials, geotextiles and sustainable materials concepts. The use of natural fibres and their potential for resource-efficient applications was also discussed.
The “International Conference on Advanced Textile Structural Composites and Geosynthetics (ATSCG 2026)” took place from 28 February to 1 March in Bhiwani. This was followed on 5 March by a “Workshop on Innovative & Technical Textiles” at Rajasthan Technical University, Kota.
Involvement in European research programmes
Both events form part of the enhanced cooperation with India under the European research framework programme, Horizon Europe. The aim is to involve India more closely in this programme and to expand joint research activities. In particular, there are thematic links to ongoing research work within the Eurecomp project.
