We have organized a Welcome Week for new international students, aiming to address all your questions. The events will help you to find you way around the campus as well as all organizational tasks. You will also meet your new peers.

Please note that these events are held in German.


Monday Sep 19 to Thursday Sep 22, 10am – 2pm each day, room Li114

German prep class: Before the prep classes in mathematics and chemistry start, we offer a class that introduces you to German vocabulary you will need in your technical lessons. Everyone about to start a degree in engineering or a technology-centered subject can participate. Please register here.

Counselling session: Here you can ask all you questions regarding your first days, weeks and months at HTWK Leipzig.

Tuesday Sep 20, 2.30 – 3.30pm, room Li106

Introduction to the online services at HTWK Leipzig: In this session, we will show you all online platforms you will need during your studies, such as your student e-mail account, the library catalogue and much more.

Wednesday Sep 21, 2.30 – 4pm, room Li114

** The six most common mistakes during the job hunt: For three years now, we have counselled our international students seeking full and part-time jobs as well as internships. In this lecture, we will tell you the most common mistakes they have made so you can be successful right away. You can find more HTW workshops regarding how to apply for jobs in Germany here.

Thursday Sep 22, 2.30 – 3.30pm / 3.30 – 5pm, room Li114

Lecture from Studentenwerk Leipzig – All about money: In this event, we will answer all your questions regarding how to find accommodation, how to finance your studies, working while studying, BaFöG and more. This event has two parts: For students with a visa from 2.30 – 3.30 pm and for refugee students from 3.30 – 5 pm.

Friday Sep 23, 2.30 – 5pm, meeting point: HTWK library (Gustav-Freytag-Str. 40)

** City rallye with with Hallo.City: You will meet new people and solve riddles about the neighborhood of HTWK. The fastest team wins a price.

Wednesday Sep 28, start 5pm, Japanisches Haus (Eisenbahnstr. 113b)

** International cooking with “HTWK international”: This is an open meeting where we will cook delicious food together.

How to find a room in a shared apartment: You are looking for a room in an apartment together with other young people (WG = Wohngemeinschaft)? The student dormitory is full? The search for a WG room is sometimes frustrating, but can also succeed if you search properly and write good contact requests. Our speaker Lea Blohm has dealt with this topic in her master thesis and gives you important tips.

Which questions will be asked and how do I best prepare to highlight my personal and degree-related strengths?

** Intercultural training: What should I keep in mind when studying in Germany? How do I behave in certain situations and how can I resolve conflicts? We will give you concrete tips in this workshop. Registration is necessary until Oct 4 via study (at)

Monday Oct 10, 5pm, Club “Eichamt 14” (Eichendorffstr. 14)

** Welcome Party: We want to welcome all new international students at HTWK. There will be food, drinks and games. Our buddies from higher semesters will receive a little thank you gift.
