Building Information Modelling (BIM) is used to comprehensively advance digitalisation processes in the construction industry
The “einfach BIM” team is committed to the comprehensive integration of the digitalisation process (the BIM method, Building Information Modelling) into the planning, construction and operation of various projects carried out within the research sector. With this objective in mind, a unique interdisciplinary alliance has been forged between stakeholders from research, planning, procurement, construction, operations, law and software development who are actively involved in such projects and thus influence the project outcome. The equal partners jointly develop standards, specific templates and workflows for standard market software applications, taking into account practicality, efficiency and cost-effectiveness. These are applied to specific projects and, in this context, help to ensure that practical BIM project experiences are scientifically documented and passed on in a practical manner. The ‘einfach BIM’ team also pursues the fundamental aim of publishing key findings from the collaboration in a practical manner, thereby promoting the successful application of the BIM method in the construction industry in a sustainable and far-reaching way.
The HTWK Leipzig project team, together with its cooperation partners in small groups and in joint workshops with the project partners, develops the following project content for the implementation of BIM projects: (i) ideal-typical BIM processes, for example for design coordination and the integration of BIM2Field, (ii) templates for direct use in standard market software, for example for tendering procedures or the modelling of specialist BIM models, and (iii) utility analyses, for example regarding the integration of visualisation tools. The developed workflows will be applied and evaluated on a phase-by-phase basis within the framework of three construction projects (low-tech office building, high-tech laboratory building, data centre) at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR). To optimise the results, online surveys are being developed, conducted and verified within the BIM team.
Since January 2021, “einfach BIM” has been developing the following consistently universal openBIM workflows in particular, which are published on the project website:
- the integration of fire safety requirements into building design,
- requirements for building design within the framework of design coordination,
- georeferencing using a collaboration platform,
- the integration of mechanical engineering data into the coordination model,
- the planning of slots and openings,
- the application of a digital modelling guideline,
- the standardisation of project collaboration processes,
- a cost-benefit analysis for the integration of visualisation technologies into the BIM process (depending on effort, benefits and costs),
- the development and verification of the application areas of BIM2Field within service phase 8 in accordance with the HOAI,
- the preparation and execution of the automated integration of as-built models into the CAFM.
Furthermore, survey analyses were produced regarding the following key topics:
- AIA and BAP,
- digital modelling guidelines,
- planning coordination using a collaboration platform.
In addition, the “einfach BIM” team provides template files covering the following content:
- digital modelling guidelines,
- project baseline for planning coordination (native input files for Autodesk Revit, Graphisoft ArchiCAD, Nemetschek Allplan),
- quality report for the evaluation of model checks and
- BIM-based tendering for construction works.
