Development of technological components for open-access publication processes
A variety of workflows have become established for the publication of open-access publications. With the publication of the findings from the predecessor project, OA-HVerlag, a model is now available for the standardised, abstract description of these workflows. By applying this model when adapting and developing technological components, the required data can be structured more precisely and described without redundancy. Based on the workflow model, the OA-STRUKTKOMM team addressed, among other things, the question of how data exchange between the systems involved in the workflow can be made more robust and compatible.
The aim of the project was therefore to further advance the process already underway to simplify the structure of a wide variety of OA publication structures and to support this with additional building blocks. In addition to the knowledge transfer required for the comprehensive introduction of the workflow model already developed, an academic approach to a communication structure was developed. Furthermore, the publication server developed in the predecessor project was further developed as an ‘out-of-the-box’ product, and research was conducted into the possibilities and limitations offered by an automated typesetting process. The aim is to make the currently highly heterogeneous publication infrastructure for open-access publications more efficient and to drive forward its standardisation.
