To conserve more resources: recycled concrete is to be used to construct sub-floors
In Germany, approximately 3 million m³ of screed is laid each year. This is equivalent to a cube with an edge length of approximately 144 m. Between 75% and 80% by volume of the mixture consists of sand and gravel. Conventional screed production therefore places a heavy burden on natural resources, their extraction sites and the Earth’s atmosphere. To date, there are no alternatives, particularly with regard to the aggregates used.
The consortium’s aim is therefore to develop alternative aggregates and cements based on aggregates from recycled concrete (GBR). This is intended to significantly reduce the consumption of natural sand and gravel. The aim is to produce screeds that sequester CO2 from the atmosphere rather than emitting additional CO2. The aim is to develop ecologically optimised screeds that can offer mechanical properties equivalent to those of conventional screeds.
