INTERACT

The INTERACT project is based on an intersectional understanding of the complex challenges faced by women who are homeless or living in substandard housing. It is essential to take into account the many facets of their vulnerability, including gender-based violence, problematic substance use and mental health conditions. INTERACT challenges traditional, isolated interventions and introduces a holistic and intersectional approach to tackling homelessness.

Through a transnational consortium comprising organisations in Greece, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Iceland and Romania, a comprehensive methodology is being developed and tested to address the underlying causes of homelessness among women. The project’s objectives include empowering marginalised women to find a way out of homelessness, enhancing the effectiveness of the measures offered, influencing policy changes towards gender-sensitive and inclusive strategies, integrating trauma-informed care, and promoting cross-border cooperation.

The measures will be implemented in all partner countries, with multidisciplinary support provided and a final intervention model developed that is versatile enough to be implemented in a variety of different national contexts. The Interdisciplinary Research Centre for ‘Safe Housing and Domestic Violence’ at HTWK Leipzig is responsible for quality assurance and the analysis of the social impact for the entire project.
