As of April 1st and until further notice all HTWK Social Media accounts (Facebook, Tinder, Instagram) will be presented in English language only. This has been the clear result of intensive debates between the HTWK Rectorate and the HTWK International Office. "Operating all this important channels in English from now on, will massively push our Internationalisierungsstrategie", the decision makers explained in a joint statement. "Especially when it comes to research issues, English is state of the art in Social Media communication", CEO Mrs. Tall explained.
However, switching all accounts into the world's most important language is not easy: Press office, who is responsible for Social media at the Leipzig Unversity of Applied Sciences, will get some runaway lessons from HighschoolLanguageCentre. "At school, my first foreign language was Russian. My English is really not the yellow from the egg", Press officer Ms. Place added smiling. Users are warmly invited to accept some minor problems with correct translations during the next few years.
"We are actively committed to making the diverse, multi-networked HTWK Leipzig one of Europe’s top universities of applied sciences", Mrs. Mill from the International team quotes the HTWK Mission Statement. "And this big step is not only supporting our own HTWK vision, but in a certain way supporting the European idea - and a subtle way of saying NO to Brexit."
At HTWK, these news have led to a divided echo. "While all can speak or at least understand English, you can make this so. I will further follow", bachelorette Esther Priehl said. "Ich kann leider kein Englisch - was soll der Quatsch?!", said Jeff Myers, Erasmus student from Glasgow. And an almost retired professor added: "I soon get a cycleruntogetherbreak. I'm not sure if we not better should concentrate on good teaching and research?!"
